When is the best time to schedule a cake smash photoshoot?

Cake smash and birthday sessions can be planned as early as 10 - 11 months if you’d like the portraits ready for your baby’s first birthday celebration. This allows plenty of time to secure your photographer, finalize your theme, and edit the images before printing.

That said, a cake smash isn’t just for turning one - these playful, milestone portraits are perfect for celebrating kids of any age. Whether it’s a second birthday, fifth, or even a fun teen or adult shoot, the concept can be customized for your celebration.

 

Can family members or siblings join the session?

Cake smash sessions are primarily focused on your little one, but parents and siblings are welcome to be included. We’ll capture a few family portraits at the beginning or end of the session, often within the styled cake smash setup. To keep the session calm and distraction-free, I kindly ask that extended family members do not attend.

 

Do you provide the cake?

You have the option to bring your own cake or select a package that includes a custom cake, designed to match your chosen theme and made with any dietary requests in mind.

 

What if I don’t want an actual cake smash?

​

That’s absolutely fine! Despite the name, a cake smash doesn’t have to be messy. We can create a beautiful birthday setup with clean portraits, or simply pose with the cake without smashing it. The focus is always on capturing fun, joyful memories in a way that feels right for you.

 

Do you provide outfits, props, and decorations?

​

Yes - I take care of the full setup, including decor, props, and themed accessories. I also provide a small selection of outfits, though I recommend parents bring a special outfit of their choice for the messy portion of the shoot. If you’d like to incorporate personal touches - such as a family heirloom, favorite toy, or a unique decoration - I’d love to include those details.

 

Will images from the session be shared online?

As a family photographer in Mississauga, Toronto, and Oakville, sharing images on my website and social media is an important way to showcase my work. However, your comfort comes first. If you prefer to keep your images private, please let me know at the time of booking.

 

Is the session safe for my child?

Yes - your child’s safety and comfort are always my top priorities. The studio is thoughtfully designed to be baby and child friendly, and I take great care to ensure all props, outfits, and surfaces are clean and ready for use. Sessions are relaxed, playful, and guided at your child’s pace to keep the experience fun and stress-free.

 

Most importantly, remember that your cake smash or birthday session is a celebration! My goal is to make the day joyful and effortless for your family while creating portraits you’ll treasure for years to come.
